Forward Service Corporation’s Upward Bound is committed to providing a safe,
productive, and enriching experience for all UB students. To make things run as smoothly as possible, we expect students to be considerate, use common sense, and follow our well-established guidelines.
Failure to follow the UB program guidelines and meet program expectations may result in program expulsion.
Expectations
- Participants are expected to respect all persons involved with the UB program
and follow the instructions of UB staff. Fighting, swearing, yelling, or using threatening speech is considered disrespectful and will not be tolerated.
- Participants must continually demonstrate academic improvement as measured by grade point average and standardized test scores. Participants are expected to meet all school attendance policies.
- Participants will complete a rigorous secondary school program as defined by UB staff.
- Participants are expected to attend all scheduled activities, arrive promptly, and come prepared with all necessary materials. Activities include: weekly meetings; workshops; field trips; and special events. If for some reason a participant is unable to attend a scheduled activity, they must notify UB staff prior to the activity.
- Participants are expected to maintain contact with FSC’s UB for 6 years after
high school graduation.
- Participants are expected to respect all property and must not use another person’s property without permission. Any damage to property will be the responsibility of the UB participant inflicting the damage.
- It is expected UB participants will not engage in any of the follow unallowable
activities:
- Possession of weapons or illegal substances
- Illegal behavior
- Sexual activity or items indicative of planned sexual activity (condoms or other contraceptives unless prescribed)
- Verbal or physical aggression
- Harmful or disfiguring acts
- Possession or viewing of inappropriate materials
- Non-platonic display of affection
- Entering the room of another UB participant without the expressed
permission of the UB staff
- Participants are expected to be responsible for all medications and must not share any prescription medications. Medications must be in the original container and legibly labeled with participant’s name, contents, dosage directions, and prescribing physician (if applicable). Participants attending the six-week summer program will be expected to turn in all medications to the UB staff. During the summer program, medications will be collected and administered per the directions outlined in the medical consent form completed prior to each summer program.
- Participants are expected to dress appropriately for all UB activities. Inappropriate dress includes: explicit, suggestive, or offensive slogans or graphics; visible undergarments; excessively revealing clothing or swimwear; and any clothing deemed inappropriate by UB staff.
- Participants are expected to adhere to the following technology guidelines:
- Devices will be used only when allowed by UB staff
- Photos will not be taken, shared, or posted without expressed consent of all parties
- Inappropriate use as determined by UB staff will not be permitted
- UB staff have the right to confiscate any device used in violation of these guidelines
- Participants are expected to attend all meals when participating in UB activities.
- Participants attending field trips, workshops, or the six-week summer program are expected to get permission for any visitors except for parents/guardians at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled visit. UB staff have the right to deny visits from anyone other than a parent/guardian.
- Participants are expected to comply with all room assignments, be in their assigned room by 10:00 p.m. and have lights out by 10:30 p.m. unless otherwise specified by UB staff.
When attending field trips or the summer program, participants will submit belongings for examination by the UB staff to ensure safety and compliance with the preceding expectations
Failure to meet the above expectations and guidelines may result in dismissal from the UB program. The UB program seeks to retain participants through their high school graduation and makes every effort, working with parent/guardian and the participant to resolve infractions. Dismissal is at the discretion of the UB Advisor with final approval by the UB Manager.
