    • The McNair Scholars Program is a TRiO Program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. To participate, students must meet U.S. residency requirements, be first-generation college students with financial need, and/or be members of underrepresented groups in higher education. Please view requirements on the Canvas site to determine eligibility status.

    • Indicate the highest level of education or natural or adoptive parents or guardian with whom you resided until age 18.

    • If answered yes, skip to FINANCIAL INFORMATION.

      Answer each question to determine your dependency classification.

    • If you answered yes to any questions, you are classified as independent. Answer the following questions.

    • If you are selected for an interview, you will need to hand deliver a copy of your and/or your parents’ tax return from 2021 or 2022 to the McNair Scholars Program Office in the Lucile Berkeley Buchanan building 255c or 255D prior to the interview.     • Provide a personal statement addressing your professional goals for the future, including the following information:

      • how a doctoral degree fits with your current career plans;
      • what you hope to gain from participating in the McNair Scholars Program;
      • how your background prepared you for the rigors of our program and doctoral study;
      • what possible topics/research interests you may want to explore in a McNair research project.

      Type in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced, and limit to two (2) pages.

    • VI. RECOMMENDATIONS 
    • Provide contact information for recommenders who can attest to your academic ability, potential for conducting research in your discipline, and motivation/preparation to undertake graduate study. At least one of the recommenders should be a faculty member at CU Boulder. Please copy and paste this link (Recommendation Form-McNair Scholars Program) and email it to your recommenders so that they can complete the online recommendation form. It is your responsibility to inform your recommenders of the deadline so that your application is complete.
