  • Dear Upward Bound Applicants:

    TRiO Upward Bound (UB) is a federally funded program that provides educational services to low-income and first-generation high school students at Hunt, Fike and Beddingfield High Schools in Wilson, North Carolina. Participants are equipped with the tools needed to graduate from high school, enroll in a college or university and complete their post-secondary education.

    The following services are available to participants:

    • Academic Tutoring and instruction in Math, Science, English and Spanish
    • Preparation for the ACT and SAT
    • Assistance with completing college applications
    • Information on post-secondary opportunities
    • Mentoring
    • Career Counseling
    • College and cultural tours and experiences
    • Assistance with completing scholarship applications, FAFSA, and other financial aid applications.

    To be considered for participation in Upward Bound, please complete this electronic application with signatures, in its entirety and submit. Participant eligibility is determined by academic need, income, first generation or disability status, and commitment to participate in the program.     • Please list a school counselor and a teacher that you would like to submit a recommendation on your behalf. They will be emailed a recommendation form to fill out for you. The counselor and teacher must currently be employed at the high school you are currently attending.

    • AUTHORIZATION AND RELEASE 

    • The personal information that you give to the Upward Bound Program is for the U.S. Department of Education. The information is protected by the Privacy Act. No one may see the information unless they work with or for the Upward Bound Program or are specifically authorized to see it. The information is necessary to determine if your child is eligible to participate in the Upward Bound Program and helps the U.S. Department of Education to measure his/her success. The U.S. Department of Education has the authority to gather such information (20 USC 1231a). Your child is not eligible for any services from Upward Bound unless the information is given.

      · I/We certify that all the information provided on this application is true and correct.

      · I/We authorize my child’s school to release records (report cards, transcripts, standardized test scores, ACT/SAT scores) to the Wilson Community College Upward Bound Program.

      · I/We authorize the release and exchange of my child’s financial aid information from colleges and federal government to Upward Bound.

      · I/We understand that the completion of this application does not guarantee acceptance into the Upward Bound Program.
