Welcome to the online application for the McNair Scholars Program! Thank you for your interest in becoming a McNair Scholar. This application is an opportunity for you to provide our review committee with more information about your interests, potential, and goals.

We also want to get to know you as a person! For this reason, we ask you to complete short answer questions toward the end of the application. As you are working, please remember that the review committee is looking for applicants who have the potential to be successful graduate students and a clear need for our Program's services. Please be honest and direct about both!

You can choose to save your application progress at any point, log out, and return later for completion and submission. To do so, you must click on "Save" at the bottom of the form. Why are you interested in becoming a Truman McNair Scholar? In preparing your response, please review the home page and Program Benefits page on our Truman McNair website (http://mcnair.truman.edu/). Which of our Program's services are most interesting to you? Which do you feel you need in order to pursue your goals? Please explain your choices and what you hope to gain from participating in our Program.
How does a graduate degree--and specifically, a PhD--fit with your current career plans? lf you are undecided or unsure, what do you feel you need to learn more about in order to explore this path? (Please note that we admit applicants who come from a variety of perspectives: some have defined grad school plans while others do not know much about grad school at all.)
All McNair Scholars develop their own research, scholarly, or creative activity project during their time in the program. What are some potential areas of interest that you might want to explore in a project like this? Why are you interested in these?
Two key characteristics students need for success in graduate study are curiosity and persistence. Please describe a time when you used both of these characteristics to accomplish a goal in an academic setting (ideally here at Truman, but you can use another example if needed). What was the result?

In choosing whom to ask, consider that they should be a Truman faculty member in your major unless you just transferred to Truman or changed your major. They should be someone who can speak about your potential as a future graduate student, which involves personal as well as academic characteristics.
