Dear Parent or Guardian:
The University of Arkansas Talent Search program is designed to help 7th-12th grade students with academic and career interests and assist with preparing for college. Students are typically recruited in the 7th grade and remain with the program until they graduate from high school and enter a college or university. Although we are affiliated with the University of Arkansas, the goal of our program is to prepare students for college, wherever they may choose to attend.
All services are offered at NO COST through a partnership with your school. A representative from the program will be at your student’s school on a regular basis throughout the year to talk with participants about their educational goals and help them identify and achieve their full potential for academic excellence. Participants are eligible for a number of services including group and individual academic advising in the areas of study skills, career exploration, preparation for college, decision making, self-awareness, college visits, financial aid and more. Students are selected for the program based upon their need for these services and upon qualifications set by the U.S. Department of Education. In order for you to assist your child in qualifying, we are asking for your help in completing the application process. Please work with your student as they complete their portion of the application (the Personal Academic Career Plan).
Talent Search is a joint venture funded through the U.S. Department of Education and the University of Arkansas and is provided as a FREE service through your local school. Because of program funding regulations, we need you to provide us with a copy of your most recent tax form. If for any reason you cannot provide us with a copy of your tax form, it is important that you provide us with your taxable income (after deductions) as opposed to your total annual income (gross income). If you do not have access to a copy machine, please provide the original tax form and we will copy and return it immediately. Any financial information you provide will be used for statistical information for the Talent Search program and will be held strictly confidential. School officials will not be provided with these records.
Thank you for taking the time to help your child have access to this beneficial program. Feel free to contact me, a staff member or school counselor if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Nathan Brown
