Dear Faculty Member:
The McNair Scholars program is a federally funded grant designed to help underrepresented undergraduate students realize their dream of pursuing post-baccalaureate education. The main goal of the McNair Scholars Program is for students to earn a Ph.D. to diversify the professoriate.
The program serves 27 students each year and is quite rigorous. Participants are required to attend weekly workshops and seminars, designate and work closely with a Faculty Mentor on a research project, meet weekly or bi-weekly with McNair Program staff, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, and participate in other scholarly activities that ultimately result in the participant building a strong graduate school application.
Part of the application process requires that applicants seek out and receive a recommendation for the program from a faculty member, preferably in the applicant’s field of study. In order to assist us in selecting the right students for our program and to ensure the continued success of the program, please be candid in your remarks. This form will remain strictly confidential.
