Purpose of Grant Aid

Grant aid is used to support TRiO SSS students for the following allowable uses:

-Current tuition and fee shortages.

-Prior term balances that prevent registration or continued enrollment.

-Balances directly tied to educational expenses, as approved by Financial Aid/Student Accounts.

Grant Aid is not allowable for the following uses:

-Direct refunds to students.

-Fines, parking fees, bookstore balances, or other non-tuition charges unless approved by institutional policy.

Eligibility Requirements

- Must be Pell Grant eligible.

- Must be an active SSS program member for at least one semester.

- Success Coaching: At least 2 documented meetings with an Academic Success Coach (e.g., McNair, SSS, CPG, Gen-1, Turner, or other UC mentor-based programs).

- Financial Literacy: Attendance at one Financial Literacy or Financial Aid workshop. (Non-TRiO events require attached documentation.

- Academic Support: At least one documented visit to the Learning Commons, NetTutor, office hours, or proof of study group/outside tutoring.

Priority will be given to Pell-eligible SSS participants in their first two years of postsecondary education, generally defined as students with 0–45 earned credit hours from UC. Students beyond 45 earned UC credits may be considered if funds remain available, they are Pell eligible, and they demonstrate risk to persistence or completion.

Review and Award Process
- Applications are reviewed by a Grant Aid Review Committee.
- A rubric will be used to score each application.
- Awards are based on eligibility, documented need, engagement with SSS, risk to persistence, and fund availability.
- Awards will be applied directly to the student account and cannot be directly refunded to the students.
- Students will be notified 3-4 weeks after submission.
- Submission does not guarantee funding.
